There is no doubt that the acquisition of Masai Ujiri in 2013 as GM and President of Basketball operation has been the game changer for the Toronto Raptors organization.  Masai Ujiri didn’t waste his time in the office and made moves right away. He traded Andrea Bargnani to the New York Knicks for Marcus Camby, Steve Novak, Quentin Richardson, a future first round draft pick, and two future second round picks. Camby and Richardson were both waived shortly after the trade. The Raptors also added Tyler Hansbrough, D. J. Augustin, Dwight Buycks, and Austin Daye via free agency.

On December 9, 2013, the Raptors traded Rudy Gay, Quincy Acy, and Aaron Gray to the Sacramento Kings for John Salmons, Greivis Vásquez, Patrick Patterson, and Chuck Hayes, and waived Augustin. The Raptors started winning games after the trade and finished the season with 48 wins and 34 losses. The Raptors got to the playoffs and eventually lost in 7 games against The Brooklyn Nets. Masai Ujiri was named the Executive of the year in the 2013-2014 season.

Critics are saying that the trade of Rudy Gay to the Sacramento Kings was the key factor for the Raptors continued success. He would often be referred as a Black hole of the offense, mainly because the ball movement stops whenever he steps on the floor and only make shots for himself. He just simply didn’t fit in what Masai Ujiri envisioned for the Toronto Raptors.

The summer before the 2014-2015 season started, Masai Ujiri brought back James Johnson for a 2 year $5 million deal, added Louis Williams and re-signs Greivis Vásquez

This season 2014-2015, The Toronto Raptors is off to a sizzling start and has never started a season like this in history, they already won 19 of 25 games despite they lost Demar Derozan to a groin injury, the Raptors still managed to stay at the top of the East while showing no signs of slowing down. Their bench has been the key to their success this season with Vasquez and Louis Williams leading the way.
